Reminder Types

Email Reminders

  • Sent to your registered email
  • Include event details
  • Link to event
  • Plain text or HTML

In-App Notifications

  • Browser notifications
  • Desktop alerts (if enabled)
  • Notification center
  • Badge counter

Both

  • Receive email and in-app
  • Maximum visibility
  • Recommended for critical events

Setting Reminders

For New Events

When creating an event:

  1. Scroll to Reminders section
  2. Click Add Reminder
  3. Select timing
  4. Choose notification type
  5. Add multiple if needed

For Existing Events

  1. Open event details
  2. Click Edit
  3. Go to Reminders
  4. Add or modify reminders
  5. Save changes

Reminder Timing

Preset Options

  • 5 minutes before
  • 15 minutes before
  • 30 minutes before
  • 1 hour before
  • 2 hours before
  • 1 day before
  • 1 week before

Custom Timing

  • Enter specific minutes/hours/days
  • Up to 4 weeks in advance
  • Multiple reminders per event

Default Reminders

Set Defaults

  1. Go to Settings > Calendar
  2. Find Default Reminders
  3. Configure:
    • Default reminder timing
    • Default notification type
    • Apply to event types
  4. Save preferences

Per Event Type

Different defaults for:

  • Meetings - 15 minutes
  • Deadlines - 1 day + 1 week
  • Personal - 30 minutes
  • Conference - 1 week

Managing Reminders

Snooze Reminders

  • Click Snooze on notification
  • Choose snooze duration
  • Get reminded again later

Dismiss Reminders

  • Click Dismiss
  • Notification cleared
  • Won't appear again

View Upcoming Reminders

  1. Go to Calendar
  2. Click Upcoming Reminders
  3. See all scheduled alerts

Reminder Notifications

Enable Browser Notifications

  1. Allow notifications when prompted
  2. Or go to browser settings
  3. Enable for ResearchConnectX domain
  4. Test with a sample event

Email Notification Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Find Calendar Reminders
  3. Enable/disable email reminders
  4. Set frequency preferences

Mobile Notifications

  • Install mobile app
  • Enable push notifications
  • Sync calendar
  • Receive alerts on device

Best Practices

Critical Events

  • Multiple reminders (1 week, 1 day, 1 hour)
  • Use both email and in-app
  • Add buffer time

Regular Meetings

  • Single reminder (15-30 min before)
  • In-app notification sufficient

Deadlines

  • Early warning (1-2 weeks)
  • Follow-up reminder (1 day)
  • Final alert (few hours)

Quiet Hours

Set times when reminders pause:

  1. Settings > Calendar > Quiet Hours
  2. Set start and end time
  3. Urgent reminders still come through

Troubleshooting

Not Receiving Reminders

  • Check notification settings
  • Verify email address
  • Enable browser notifications
  • Check spam folder

Too Many Notifications

  • Reduce default reminders
  • Adjust per-event settings
  • Use daily digest option
  • Disable for less important events
