Complete your ResearchConnectX profile to enable AI-powered matching and connect with the right research opportunities.

Why Complete Your Profile?

A comprehensive profile helps:

  • AI Matching - Get better project and conference recommendations
  • Collaboration - Help others find you for research opportunities
  • Credibility - Build trust with potential collaborators
  • Visibility - Increase your research presence

Profile Completion Steps

Step 1: Basic Information

Navigate to Settings > Basic Profile

Required Fields

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email Address

Additional Information

  • Profile Photo - Upload a professional photo
  • Title - Dr., Prof., Mr., Ms., etc.
  • Gender
  • Date of Birth
  • Phone Number
  • Recovery Email - For account recovery
  • Address - Street, city, postal code, country

A profile photo increases trust and makes you more approachable to potential collaborators.

Step 2: Institution Affiliation

Link your current institution:

  1. Search for your institution
  2. Select from the dropdown
  3. Add your Department or Faculty
  4. Specify your Role (e.g., Researcher, PhD Student, Professor)

Step 3: Academic Profile

Navigate to Settings > Academic Profile

Research Information

  • Academic Position - Your current position
  • Highest Qualification - PhD, Masters, etc.
  • Professional Bodies - Memberships in academic organizations
  • Introduction/Bio - Brief description of your research focus (200-500 words)

Research Interests

Add your research interests to enable AI matching:

  1. Click Add Research Interest
  2. Type your research area (e.g., "Machine Learning", "Cancer Immunology")
  3. Select from suggestions or add custom interests
  4. Add multiple interests for better matching

Subject Areas

Specify your expertise:

  1. Primary Subject Area - Your main field
  2. Grade/Level - Your expertise level
  3. Specializations - Specific areas within the field

You can add multiple subject areas with different specialization levels.

Academic Metrics

  • Publications (First Author) - Number of first-author publications
  • Total Publications - Total publication count
  • Presentation Experience - Conferences where you've presented
  • Reviewer Interest - Indicate if you're interested in peer review

Step 4: Education History

Add your academic qualifications:

  1. Go to Settings > Academic Profile > Education
  2. Click Add Education
  3. Enter:
    • Institution
    • Degree - BSc, MSc, PhD, etc.
    • Field of Study
    • Start Date and End Date
    • Grade (optional)
    • Description (optional)

Step 5: Lab Experience

Document your laboratory or research experience:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Lab Experience
  2. Click Add Experience
  3. Enter:
    • Institution/Lab
    • Position
    • Research Focus
    • Duration
    • Skills Gained

Step 6: External Profile Integration

Connect your external research profiles for automatic data import:

  1. Go to Settings > External Profiles
  2. Link your profiles:
    • ORCID - Your persistent researcher identifier
    • Google Scholar - For publication tracking
    • ResearchGate - Academic networking profile
    • PubMed - For medical research publications

AI Profile Generation

Once you've completed your basic profile, ResearchConnectX can generate an AI-powered profile summary:

Enable AI Profile

  1. Go to Settings > AI Profile
  2. Click Generate AI Profile
  3. The AI analyzes your:
    • Research interests
    • Publications
    • Academic background
    • Subject expertise
  4. Review the generated summary
  5. Click Save to apply

Regenerate AI Profile

Update your AI profile after making significant changes:

  1. Update your academic information
  2. Add new publications
  3. Navigate to AI Profile
  4. Click Regenerate Profile

The AI profile helps with:

  • Better match recommendations
  • Profile searchability
  • Automatic profile summaries for collaborators

Profile Visibility Settings

Control who can see your profile:

Public Profile

  • Visible to all ResearchConnectX users
  • Appears in search results
  • Receives AI match recommendations

Private Profile

  • Only visible to your connections
  • Limited search visibility
  • Reduced match recommendations

To change visibility:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy
  2. Select Public or Private
  3. Save changes

Profile Completion Checklist

Track your profile completion percentage:

  • Basic information completed
  • Profile photo uploaded
  • Institution linked
  • Research interests added (at least 3)
  • Subject areas specified
  • Academic position set
  • Introduction/bio written
  • Education history added
  • External profiles linked
  • Publications imported
  • AI profile generated

Editing Your Profile

Update Information

  1. Navigate to the relevant settings section
  2. Click Edit next to the field
  3. Make your changes
  4. Click Save

Bulk Updates

For major profile updates:

  1. Use the Edit Profile wizard
  2. Update multiple sections
  3. Save all changes at once

Profile Best Practices

Research Interests

  • Add 3-10 specific interests
  • Use standard terminology from your field
  • Include both broad topics and niche areas
  • Update as your research focus evolves

Bio/Introduction

  • Keep it concise (200-500 words)
  • Highlight current research
  • Mention collaboration interests
  • Include your research goals

Profile Photo

  • Use a professional headshot
  • Ensure good lighting and clarity
  • Keep it recent (within 2 years)
  • Appropriate for academic setting

External Profiles

  • Link all relevant profiles
  • Keep profiles up to date
  • Ensure consistent information across platforms
  • Enable automatic publication sync

Regular Updates

  • Review profile quarterly

Update your profile when you:

  • Join a new institution
